First lady Michelle Obama is getting her DJ Khaled on and rounding up an awesome list of all-star female singers for the girl power posse cut, “This Is for My Girls.”
Established singers Missy Elliot, Kelly Clarkson, Kelly Rowland, Lea Michele, and Janelle Monae are joined by newcomers Zendaya, Jadagrace and Chloe & Halle on the jamming record which was penned by acclaimed songwriter Diane Warren and produced by AOL Makers. The empowering record finds the ladies offering thoughtful encouragement to women, singing, “This is for my girls all around the world/Stand up, put your head up/Don’t take nothing from nobody.” Unfortunately, there are no #FlotusBars on this one.
“This Is for My Girls” is all part of Mrs. Obama’s #62MillionGirls social media campaign, which vows to bring awareness to the 62 million girls around the globe currently not enrolled in school for numerous reasons. On top of the new song, the First Lady will also be travelling to Austin to discuss Let Girls Learn at SXSW Music Conference on Wednesday. Mrs. Obama plans to share all the ways students across the country can take action on “critical issues like adolescent girls education.”
