Who Didn’t See This Coming? The Lakers Fire Mike Brown After 1-4 Start

You know how when a celebrity or someone is old or sick and newspapers write obituaries for them while they’re living so the article can go up as soon as possible after they die? Well, that’s what we should have done the minute the Lakers hired Mike Brown. He just isn’t a good head coach and the Lakers’ putrid start to the season lies mostly on his shoulders. ESPN, hit us with the Princeton offense:

Los Angeles Lakers coach Mike Brown has been fired after a 1-4 start to the season, a source tells ESPNLosAngeles.com’s Ramona Shelburne.

It is not known yet who will take over for him, but a source indicated that one of assistant coaches Bernie Bickerstaff or Chuck Person will take over on an interim basis.

Earlier Friday, sources had told ESPN.com’s Marc Stein that the team was using its upcoming six-game homestand to evaluate Brown, but after numerous discussion over the past 48 hours, Lakers management came to a unanimous decision that the team wasn’t heading in the right direction.

Kobe offered his support as recently as yesterday but it was clearly a weak attempt at team unity, especially after this happened:

kobe death stare

We wish Mike Brown well in his future endeavors, which probably doesn’t involve being a head coach of an NBA team ever. We’ll also see how this affects the team as the Lakers face the Warriors in a battle between the 2nd and last placed teams in the Pacific Division. *cough*
