Nas Feat. Amy Winehouse – “Cherry Wine” Video

The more and more I give thought to the subject, the more I realize Nas’ Life Is Good may indeed go down as my favorite project of 2012. In addition, he and Amy Winehouse’s incredibly soul-cleansing duet, “Cherry Wine,” could very well end up as my favorite song of the year. There’s still plenty of time for the titles at hand to change, but Nas, after days of trailers, finally unleashed the video for the aforementioned Amy-assisted number.

Brittany Dailey takes upon the ominous task of playing the leading lady in the video as Amy’s voice looms over the track like a guardian angel. The song itself was powerful off the strength of Amy and Nasir’s relationship, her instant-classic hook and Esco’s exposing lyrics of heartbreak, love and the desire to be a one-woman man. The video only helps drive these points home even more.

More than anything, however, kudos to Nas for not only allowing the world into his life with the new album, but releasing arguably three of the most personal records in recent memory all as singles (“Daughters,” “Bye Baby” and now this). A risky move, indeed, but one seeming to pay dividends far beyond a Soundscan or FM dial.
