NBA Jam is headed to all major consoles (PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii) sometime this fall. It’s great that it won’t be exclusive to the Wii as previously announced. But…there’s a catch depending on what system you have. PS3 and 360 owners looking to cop the game have to buy NBA Elite 11, EA’s sim basketball reboot, for $60 at retail in order to play NBA Jam. In layman’s terms, horseshit.
But what if you don’t want to play NBA Elite?
As of now you can either spring for a Wii version or twiddle your thumbs since EA says, “There are no plans to sell it as a standalone product on the X360 or PS3 at this time.” Something in my crystal ball tells me they’re bundling it in with NBA Elite since NBA Live’s sales fell due to NBA 2K. New gameplay aside, a name change may not be enough to attract audiences leery of NBA Live: hence NBA Jam’s inclusion.
At any rate, I’ll just wait and see if NBA Jam goes the route of the PSN and Xbox Live Marketplace. If not, well, my money will stay in my wallet. As should yours.
