Plenty Of Hops On Display For NBA’s Dr. Martin Luther King Day Showcase

The NBA’s traditional Martin Luther King Day “YOU GON’ WORK” schedule remained intact yesterday. The gamut of games played second fiddle to Barack Obama’s public Inauguration. Yet the entertaining bills delivered with some late game heroics and a few dunks at some poor saps’ expense. Now it’s time for some extended humiliation!

Al Horford is first up with his yam on former Boston Crab Greg Stiemsma. Horford enjoyed a career game with 28 and 10 as the Hawks eventually beat Timberwolves 104-96. Tip your hat to Jannero Pargo who let 14 fourth quarter points rip before the ink on his 10-day contract dried.

Let’s get back to Al for a second. Atlanta’s recent run hasn’t been great but Horford still has a shot as a potential All Star Game reserve. The lineups will unveil this Thursday so we’ll see where he’ll stand soon enough. My money’s on him getting snubbed, the basketball dweeb collective becoming mad and Kevin Garnett not giving a shit over a bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios.

Now check out rookie golden boy Damian Lillard with his late game posterization of Nené. The dunk created for some good theater in the Rose Garden Arena. However the Wizards actually held and beat Portland off a last-second long 3 from Jordan Crawford. The Wizards have gone 5-5 in their last 10 games. Maybe they took heed to Jay-Z’s words of wisdom?
