Bounce Music has been around in New Orleans for decades and is as part of the city’s fabric as Go-Go is to D.C. Unfortunately, most of the world’s main exposure to the genre as of late is the magical-est, soft shoe-iest video of ever made this year: Wal-Mart by the visionary named Mr. Ghetto.
But don’t get it twisted. The right bounce beat can reinvigorate a song, turning any track into booty-shaking fun. How else do you think Adele’s song “Rolling In The Deep” has become the most sought-after club joint in the city of New Orleans?
Cars, barber shops, clubs and radio stations have turned the “Rolling In The Deep” bounce remix into the hottest song in the city, toppling anything Lil Wayne has been able to drop. And to make it better, the song was put together by some guy named DJ Chicken who I briefly met at the NOLA Hip-Hop Awards last year. He showed up in a chicken suit. No, that has nothing to do with this song, but I can’t omit the ever-important detail of seeing a grown man in a chicken suit.
Anyway, play this track and tell me it doesn’t make you want to sing your heart out…while p*ssy popping down the “20 items or less” aisle.
