Here’s something the Internet doesn’t know. I’ve got mind control over Freddie Gibbs. When he drops dope tracks and projects on the regular, I don’t complain. But when he goes awhile without doing so? If I can alter the words of “Smokey” from Friday, “I be complaining again.” Just this morning I inquired about new music from the face of Gary, Indiana, Hip-Hop. No lie, within the hour “Joy & Pain” landed in the inbox.
ANTHM dropped his Joy & Pain FreEP last week with the project’s title track featuring Freddie. While I cannot yet give a truthful opinion on ANTHM, Gibbs does his normal 1-2 with rugged lyrics the ups and downs of his life explained via buttery smooth flow. He’s obviously had better features, but “Joy & Pain” worthy enough to add to your Freddie Gibbs folder. And if we’re lucky, his Gangsta Grillz and/or Baby Face Killa should crash land soon.
