Big K.R.I.T. – “KING Pt. 2”

“Hard to bury a partner, but harder to console a momma.”

Songs like “KING Pt. 2” increase the gap between K.R.I.T. and the crowd. A follow-up to a 2010 track with a similar theme, K.R.I.T. uses Just Blaze’s “Lord Knows” to “say a lot” with the pulpit he’s been blessed with.

“We all born to die, Yeah, that’s basic.
But living fast and dying young, ain’t salvation
You keep on with that blasphemy and I’ll keep on with my praying
If you think that Lambo’s hot in the summer, well Hell’s blazing”

On “King Pt. 2” and the other leak, “Boobie Miles,” K.R.I.T delivers his words with the might of a minister yet his rhymes never come off as heavy-handed preaching. Instead, he’s the OG Bobby Johnson figure who has navigated both sides of the fence and now sharing his lessons learned with the kid pictured on the 4evaNaDay cover, trying to steer shorty clear of the bumps in the road.

Let’s hope the kids are listening. Grown folks too.
