Anything BJ The Chicago Kid-related warrants a listen. So when he covers probably the most infectious song of the current moment, the choice to listen is pretty much a no-brainer. First things first, the original is unsurpassable. I’m not even sure what’s being said for 50% of the song, but the 50% I do know I sing at the top of my lungs every morning while driving to work.
The Chicago Kid, however, adds more of a soulful twist with the end result being worthy of played after the original. One aspect about BJ’s version I will shower with praise is the fact I know what he’s saying every second. Color me lazy, but I’ve yet to Google the actual lyrics to see what Gotye is preaching. I just get so excited when the part I do know comes on. Feel free to judge me if you wish.
BJ The Chicago Kid – “Somebody I Used To Know (Gotye Cover)”
Bonus: Duran (the guy who crafted the Trayvon Martin tribute) adds his own spin to BJ’s “King Kong.” And it’s not too shabby either.
