“They be saying I sound like I’m out of tune. I ask them, do you cry in tune, aggin? Do you laugh in tune?”
After a career’s worth of comparisons to Outkast’s most elusive member, Bobby Ray finally gets to share a session with his idol, Andre 3000. For the second single from the Grand Hustle multi-tasker’s sophomore album, Strange Clouds, the past and present purveyors of Atlanta Hip-Hop get together to “Play The Guitar.” Produced by Salaam Remi and built around a Clifford line from Drake’s “Fancy,” this four-minute parade on wax succeeds in being a cool concept record with enough creativity amidst all parties to draw in longtime listeners and casual fans alike. But, a fun record doesn’t always equate to radio plays, as “Play…” seems a tad too loose to be the big hit Atlantic Records is hoping for and would probably fit in better alongside the rest of the album.
Next time, maybe they’ll just play the microphone.Subscribe to UPROXX
