With June 12 not-too-far in the near future, if Bow Wow really plans on releasing his Cash Money debut, Underrated, on time, he best get on the good foot and create more momentum than it has now. One idea that may work is putting the muscle behind his T-Pain-assisted offering, “Better.” The song is tagged as Bow’s second single leading me to ponder what the first one was. Anywho, blessed with a hook from Pain sounding so drunkenly infectious that it creates flashbacks to his dominant run of yesteryear, Young Shad once more reaches out to the opposite sex. This time in particular it’s a female who has pulled herself by the bootstraps to matriculate over the years from stripper to college graduate to wife; all the while ignoring those who said she’d never amount to anything worth a damn.
In all seriousness, “Better” has potential, probably more than anything I’ve heard from him recently mainly because it doesn’t attempt to blatantly attract radio spins. At the end of the day, it’s a solid song, all factors considered. Bow Wow doesn’t have the “song of the summer” on his hands, but he’s definitely holding on to a record which could easily find itself on FM dials over the next few months. And if that happens, maybe he won’t have to push his album back. Again.
