Chief Keef opts for a softer sound on “Tatted Like My Amigos,” flexing his lyrical chops by tapping into the Spanish language for a couple choice words in his ode to body ink. Absent are the usual dramatic, heavy bass kicks that give his music that menacing, gritty street feel. Since it wouldn’t be a real Chief Keef song without the “bang bang,” the ad-libs are still there, but almost sound a little unnecessary.
Whether “Tatted Like My Amigos” sounds like it should have been listed on the “I Don’t Like (Remix)” that likely put that $30,000 figure for a verse in his head, it shows some promise for Chief Keef. A song about tattoos is hardly Earth-shattering, but with his quicker flow, and the less intimidating instrumental selection, he might survive outside of the trap.
