Common – “Celebrate”

The aggins I used to hoop with is now who I ball with.” Common isn’t playing around this album. If you didn’t believe that by now, you will when you hear “Celebrate.”

After “Sweet” found the typically refined rapper unleashing some much-needed steam, this No I.D. production finds Lonnie sitting by the fire, enjoying the company of close friends and loved ones. Behind the reflective lyrics, the song is driven by organic keys, light guitars and a heart-warming hook with language that Grandma might slap someone over. And, if Com had any sense, which we know he does, he’ll take advantage of family being around for the holidays and shoot an accompanying visual to bring this relatable track back full-circle.

The Dreamer, The Believer drops on December 20, and I’m now much more inclined to cop.
