Revisiting Drake’s “Club Paradise,” there’s an interesting note:
“And I was told once, things will change
By a nigga named Tip when my deal came
Told me it’s all good, even when it feel strange
Now I’m that guy that know them strippers by their real names
Thick bitches, they just talked me out of four grand…”
A subliminal acknowledgment from one Toronto native to another? Or does Drake indeed know two strippers by the names Rochelle and Jordan? Regardless, the context of those lyrics and RoJo’s new record “Shot” could actually serve as two pieces of an intricate puzzle. The KLSH and Pat Preezy produced number finds the T-Dot songbird assuming the role of an exotic dancer questioning her present line of work, but ultimately decides to push those concerns to the side after an always productive, yet sometimes dangerous shot of Henny.
While an ominous and sexy vibe is present, there’s this dark, lonely emotion she emits as well. Label it “emo” or whatever, but it works well here. It must be a Toronto thing. Also, if I haven’t said it enough already, I love Rochelle’s voice. The all natural and throwback feel has to make her a near automatic selection for one of 2011’s most talented new names. Her cover of Aaliyah’s “Are You That Somebody?” alone supports that.To download the song be sure to visit RoJoWorld.com.
