The Lox – “New York Rap”

While passing up on any new material from this storied New York ensemble is never an option, getting my hopes up for another project isn’t either. For all the talk about Dre’s inability to release Detox for whatever reasons, Sheek, Styles and Jada have been talking of this mythical new album for years now. At this point, I have no real reason to believe it is anything more than just another rapper talking about another release date that will eventually fall through.

Enough of being so pessimistic though. The trio Christopher Wallace once co-signed back in the 1990’s is still around making music together, which is more than what can be said about many groups who existed from the previous two decades. “New York Rap” is a lyrical exercise with no hook, just bars upon bars upon bars of tough talk and the frequent lyrical gem that has come to be their calling card throughout the years. I’m enjoying the track for what it is, because as far as I know this is just a random nugget that escaped the studio.
