It was the beginning of 2009 when TC and I had a side bet going as to whether or not Tyga would be part of a legitimate Top 40 hit within the next 365. Going against my better judgment, I stuck with the tatted Compton kid who dropped the not-so-hotness that was “Coconut Juice,” based on the bars of heat he was spitting on his Outraged & Underage mixtape. TC, of course, bet against him.
Fast forward two years, and despite this Young Money soldier’s steadily-increasing legitimacy, I still owe a few unwelcoming album reviews to Mr. Tiberious Cloverton. Still, after receiving SoundScan credits from his star-studded street hit (“I’m On It”) and appearances on YMCMB’s group album, Tyga continues to prove his worth with a new, big-budget Neptunes-produced single, “Really Raw.” The typical, bare-bones stylings of Chad and Skateboard P serve as an open canvass for youngblood and his famous Cali pals to deliver all the putrid punchlines and gnarling drawl you’d expect from this undercooked title and Pharrell’s awkwardly catchy hook.
Even though this bodes well for his upcoming Careless World LP, I’d be surprised if it earns Weezy’s little homie that Nicki and Drake radio love he hopes it will.[audio:http://www.archive.org/download/TygaFeat.SnoopDoggGamePharrellreallyRaw/TygaFtSnoopDogggamePharrell-reallyRaw.mp3%5D
