After a lukewarm response to the Nike KD V, designer Leo Chang put his ingenuity into overhaul to create the KD VI. And now, after being previewed weeks ago, one of the best colorways of the year is closing in on us. The ‘Precision Timing’ iteration draws inspiration from the inner workings of high-end watches, and taking a closer look at the shoe reminds us of why Chang is a genius.

The intricate lines are rehashed from the Supreme release that dropped earlier in the year, although this time they’re reflective to give the shoe a more metallic look and feel. Take a gander at the Flywire creating a contrasting pattern with the reflective lines, the UV spotting on the tongue, and the machining lines on the swoosh and KD logo.

And while the color scheme is relatively subtle, there are a ton of details for the trained eye. Take the mint colored accents out, and the dark shoe is devoid of any pop. Remove the gold swoosh and lose that bit of luxury appeal that accompanies most precision watches. Take out the reflective accents and what’s left is something that could be created on Nike ID. But when Chang puts them all together, we get a Voltron shoe worthy of being called one of the best KD releases of the year.

Don’t sleep. The Nike KD VI ‘Precision Timing’ drops December 7th.
