As the NBA’s second season prepares to kick off, Nike Basketball’s equipping LeBron James with an evolved and enhanced Elite version of his signature shoe. The Elites received an upgrade in the form of a Kurim cage upper. The material is described to be more durable and pliable while providing a skin-like fit that’s still able to move and adapt with each cut, start and stop. Thin layers are applied to areas of the foot that require flexibility while thicker ones show up in spots where more support is needed.
The LeBron 13 Elite also comes with player favorites like a carbon fiber shank, leather toecap, a full-length bootie for a fit that’s even more snug and the addition of two more hexagonal Zoom Air units on each shoe, boosting the count to six total per shoe. In conjunction with the Kurim upper, Nike promises all of these additional advancements will create “dynamic lockdown, optimal stability and articulated, responsive cushioning,” all instrumental in the King’s chase for his third championship ring.
“When the playoffs come around, every play matters more,” James said. “So I wanted greater explosiveness to make the most out of rare opportunities. Now that Nike gave me that, I know that my shoes are working as hard as I am to win a championship.”
The Nike LeBron 13 Elite launches in the red colorway on April 14 at Nike.com and select retail locations. The additional white and black colorways will release on May 5 and May 26, respectively.
