The most controversial owner in all of sports has passed away today.
While, in recent years, Al Davis has been seen as a Mr. Burns-like caricature of an owner, his legacy as a revolutionary thinker and supporter of his employees can’t be denied. He even took the NFL to court and was able to move his team to L.A. without the NFL’s permission. Davis is the only person in NFL history to serve as a player personnel assistant, an assistant coach, a head coach, a general manager, a league commissioner and the principal owner and chief executive officer of an NFL team.
