Why does any professional athlete think it’s a good idea to say anything about Ray Rice at right now?
For the time being, every sports agent and publicist should be advising their clients to absolutely avoid speaking on Rice’s situation in any public situation. Otherwise, handlers are going to be left cleaning up a similar mess that Paul George just made for his camp.
The Indiana Pacers star sent out the tweets below regarding Ray Rice’s suspension, seemingly coming to Rice’s defense for beating his fiancee.
Of course, he deleted the messages as quickly as he could and even as he tried to switch the topic.
Too late for George because the damage was done as Twitter users started to rain down on him.
George probably got a three-way call from NBA commish Adam Silver and Pacers exec. Larry Bird asking “What the hell, Paul?” And like clockwork, he followed up with a subsequent apology.
At best, the Pacers guard may be able to blame is on the pain meds he’s taking while recovering from that horrific leg injury and subsequent surgery. Using the “I was hacked” excuse won’t cut it this time.
