NBA legends are still being molded but the ones that gutted it out with one team — through the thick and thin times — has all but become a hardwood fable. No sooner than the recent accomplishment of Kobe Bryant’s (one of those rare sole squad lifer) surpassing of Shaq, the soon-to-be-retired jersey of #34 illuminated the Garden as it has done for 13 consecutive seasons.

Larry Bird is a Boston Celtic immortal but Paul Pierce just overtook his 2nd place spot on the Celtics’ all-time scoring list with 21,792. Only John Havlicek stands in the way with his 26,395 point total. It was only fitting that the historic bucket came courtesy from behind the 3-point line although Pierce had somewhat of an off-shooting night; missing his last three attempts from behind the arc. His near triple double of 15 points, eight rebounds and nine assists was enough contribution for he and his teammates to blow by a dismal Charlotte Bobcats team by a score of 94-84.

Even with the win (and Jermaine O’Neal’s bonehead technical foul shortly thereafter the shot), it was clear what the crowd came to see. Unlike those very same fans who watched the Pats the other night.
