Pusha T’s album My Name Is My Name is my current favorite album of the year so far, and barring any major surprises (sorry Mr. Mathers), it’ll wind up staying that way until well into 2014. And as far as “Hold On” is concerned, it’s easily one of the best records from the project.
Kanye’s Auto-Tune crooning in the background is reminiscent of 808s, and beautifully sets the darkly menacing tone that’s prevalent pretty much throughout the album. And Rick Ross. Is there a better feature rapper than him? He attacks pretty much every guest spot he gets, and more than that, Rozay’s capable of morphing his style to fluidly fit whatever subject he’s tackling. Now granted Pusha T occupies a fairly similar lane as him (and not much versatility was needed here), Ricky was the perfect fit for a verse, slaughtering his bars alongside his chants of “I got you my n*gga, hold on.”
