The point in Pusha-T’s latest promo interview that should get us most excited for My Name Is My Name comes around the 1:50 mark, when he proclaims “I think I’m in a lane on my own. I feel like I’m the only person making raw hip-hop music… I’m the only person making “car” music.”

You know, car music. Like the first time you heard the horns drop in “I Still Wanna.” Or the first time you heard the horns drop in “Got’ Damn.” Pusha-T – and the rap family that he hails from – know a thing or two about crafting readymade whip anthems, the kind of pump-up music that, as Push notes, only a few in the industry are capable of churning out. I can’t wait. My gym playlist has been yearning for some fresh blood.

Other topics T discusses in his interview with Elliot Wilson:

— Pusha-T’s relationship with Pharrell, a discussion that casts an interesting light on Skateboard P (“he knows me and all my childhood friends”). It also sheds light on the origin of the album’s ultimate track: “S.N.I.T.C.H.”

— Pusha’s friendly rivalry with Kanye West, including Ye’s reaction at Push’s listening party.

— The relatively deep subject matter that Push has been working with.

My Name drops October 8th, or any day now in Internet time. Plan your listening schedule accordingly.

Update: For those who can’t wait, the album is currently streaming on Myspace.
