Packers QB Matt Flynn Signs With Seattle Seahawks

Depending on who you ask, quarterback Matt Flynn is the best signal-caller available on the open market (go with Peyton Manning if you’d like; it’s ultimately a potential vs. age debate). The former Packer recently signed with the Seattle Seahawks for three years, per ESPN. The deal will net him $10 million guaranteed, and could be worth up to $26 million when all is said and done.

Flynn oozes potential, and should immediately claim a starting spot on the Seahawks’ depth chart, lest Tavaris Jackson comes back from the offseason like a man possessed. The former LSU player has flashed big game ability in the past, against notable opponents like the Patriots and the Lions. The ‘Hawks got him at a relatively cheap price; the move could prove to be a masterstroke in a year or two. Their young defense is already formidable so an offense to match could pay major dividends in future NFC West title chases. The thought of a top passing game and Marshawn Lynch should place a healthy amount of fear in defenses’ hearts.

Needless to say, Green Bay won’t miss much. Could they have franchise tagged him and haggled him in front of teams for draft picks? Probably. But at the end of the day, you won’t find a cheesehead around with a frown on his or her face, thanks in large part to current quarterback Aaron Rogers. Whether or not Flynn can match number 12 is up for debate, but, at the very least, he will now finally get his chance.
