Feel free to order that custom “Luck” Indianapolis Colts jersey. In news that will deflate some of the NFL draft’s natural uncertainty, the last-place Colts appear primed to draft Andrew Luck with the number one overall pick, according to sources close to team owner Jim Isray. It’s hard to think of a comparable situation to this, considering the shadow that Peyton Manning still casts over the Colts franchise. Undoubtedly one of the best quarterbacks to ever play the game, a move like this represents the final act in a depressing fall from grace.
But it’s hard to find fault in the Colts’ decision given Manning’s cloudy medical future and the talent that Luck possesses. Whatever happens though, I guarantee you that the competitor in Peyton would rather pack his bags for another franchise than tutor a young hot-shot prospect. There are more than a handful of teams that seem a competent quarterback away from greatness (*cough* San Fransisco*cough*), so don’t be surprised to see Manning taking snaps elsewhere in 2012.
