RETRO is coming out the gates strong. Today, the 22-year-old rapper, who resides in Atlanta by way of Detroit, releases his first video for his the song, “Resist.” To match the scope of the song, with the choral chants, ominous basslines, and how his flow and voice interact with the beat, verses just rapping along with it, the accompanying visual had to be something special.
In the best way possible, the video is quite the theatrical ordeal. There’s the religious iconography, RETRO dancing around in various areas of decay around Atlanta while rapping, and then the whole personal journey and being blessed by the priest with Henny to do what he’s doing. Plus, it looks like it’s shot through various Instagram filters, which is an added bonus.
As a first on multiple levels, “Resist” is a proper introduction for RETRO before his mixtape, The Six, releases later this summer.
