Ricky Rubio Will Finally Join The NBA

After two years of waiting, Spanish star Ricky Rubio reportedly has finally agreed to come over to the Minnesota Timberwolves for the 2011-12 NBA season. The young Spainard has great court vision, handles and passing skills and he showed the ability to match up with the NBA’s best point guards in the Gold Medal game of the 2008 Olympics. His game is electrifying and should make an already interesting Timberwolves team a legitimately fun, exciting group to watch.

Excitement aside, I’m still apprehensive and fully aware that he’s not going to revolutionize the game just by bringing his talents to North America. Dude needs to work on his shooting ability (he shot 39.2% from the field in Euroleague play this season, including a 22.4% mark from three-point range) and his strength (he’s listed at 6’5”, 190 but I’d be surprised if he actually weighs that much) before he’ll really come into his own in this league.

Still, Rubio ought to be good for making SportsCenter a few nights per week. The young talent has been compared to Jason Kidd in the past and the comparison looks fairly accurate. The man sees the floor extremely well and has all the passes. His length is special as well and will set him apart from a lot of point guards in the league. But right now, he’s raw. In a few years, however, he could be something special.
