Welp, Rihanna’s #Navy can change the channel because Rih-rih will not be performing at the 2016 Grammys. The singer was advertised to perform for weeks leading up to music’s biggest night, but had to pull out due to bronchitis.
According to TMZ, Rihanna actually made it to the Staples Center and even rehearsed fan favorite, “Kiss It Better” for new album ANTI twice, before her doctor advised it was best for her to rest her throat and not perform because doing so would “permanently damage her vocal cords.”
Rihanna wasn’t nominated for any Grammys this year since ANTI missed the Grammy deadline, but will probably score a couple nods in 2017. Not that the “Work” singer doesn’t have a several golden gramophones sitting on her mantle. Since bursting onto the scene with Music of the Sun in 2005, Rihanna has won a total of eight Grammys, most recently, picking up a Best Rap/Sung Collaboration Grammy for her singing contributions on Eminem’s “Monster.”
Perhaps the rest is for the best, past Grammy winners like Adele and Sam Smith have had to take months, if not years, off recently due to bursting their vocal cords. While she’ll be missed from the broadcast, it’s better in the big picture.
