In the span of 30 seconds, Ronnie Fieg can cause utter joy and utter heartbreak for sneakerheads. Joy in the fact he made the release date for his collaborative effort with Asics official, and heartbreak in stating that he wouldn’t ever retro past releases. The Ronnie Fieg x Asics Gel Lyte V ‘Cove’ & ‘Mint Leaf’ pairing is as close as we’ll get for now. The sneaker guru took colors of some of his favorite past releases and gave them a new look on the Gel Lyte V rather than the Gel Lyte III. Purists may lament the lack of a split tongue, but these are still ridiculously well done.

The price of $160 might be steep for a pair of runners, but it’s justified for pretty much any of Fieg’s releases. The man spares no detail in creating classics. Both pairs come with premium nubuck pigskin suede, 3M accents, a perforated toebox (!!!) and neoprene sockliner. Hell, even the chain link design on the round laces are hype worthy. I’m used to two options for laces on some limited kicks, but four possible options? Ronnie definitely went the extra mile for fans of his kicks, and I salute him for that.

The Ronnie Fieg x Asics Gel Lyte V ‘Cove’ & ‘Mint Leaf’ releases April 5th at Kith NYC at 11am EST. Both pairs are $160 a piece.
