The Rudy Gay Era Is Off To A Flying Start In Toronto

You’ll have to excuse Raptors fans’ inclination to reserve judgement on the Rudy Gay trade, at least until we’ve spent the next several years making sure Ed Davis doesn’t become another in a long line of ones that got away.

For one night, though, it was rather easy to let our guard down as Gay and the Raptors played about as perfect a game as they could’ve hoped for. Especially since Gay – who led the Raps with 20 points off the bench on 8-of-16 shooting – flew into Toronto on Friday afternoon and wasn’t expected to suit up until Sunday against Miami.

Bolstered by Gay’s solid play and a host of impressive blue collar performances (19 points at 16 rebounds for a fluish Amir Johnson), the Raptors sprinted to a 98-73 rout of the LA Clippers, who slept walk through most of the 48 minutes at the Air Canada Centre.

Lob City ended up on the other end of most of the high-flying action as they were treated to a punctuation jam by DeMar DeRozan and a couple of fast-break alley-oops from DeRozan to Gay—a sign that while the Raptors probably won’t be nearly as good in nights to come, but they could very well be as entertaining.
