The Run The Jewels album is a merciless wrecking ball. One of the best projects of the year, it takes Hip-Hop back to its playground competition roots, armed with the sole purpose of outrapping the rest of the landscape. And by the time the waning seconds of the final track reverberate through your speakers, there’s just a fiery ruin left behind in Killer Mike and El-P’s wake.
To say the Big-Boi assisted “Banana Clipper” is the hardest record on the album is like picking the best QB in the NFL: there’s clearly an elite group, but it’s all subjective from there. You can make a case for a good majority of these tracks to be THE standout, but enlisting Daddy Fat Saxxx to close it out was a genius move because he fits so well with their sound. Who knows, maybe on RTJ’s follow-up, there may room for more than one collaboration.
