ScHoolboy Q has paid homage to 50 Cent in a handful of songs, at times comparing Fif to the likes of the Notorious B.I.G. and Nas. In a recent interview with Miss Ls for Vibe, the Black Hippy representer puts his respects for the Queens rapper in proper perspective, saying that 50 inspired him to pick a mic in the first place. “I wasn’t really rapping but when I heard that I was like fuck it…I really went hard at it. Fifty probably saved my life on some real shit,” Q said.
50’s fall from grace needs no further documentation, but still, it’s interesting to see up-and-comers paint his past in such a positive light. I’m still in my early 20’s, so Get Rich Or Die Tryin’ was a seminal moment in my musical education. It’s easy to understand Q’s reasoning. If Q (or any other TDE members for that matter) were to bring 50 along for a couple of guest appearances, I don’t think they’d hear many objections.
