Sleigh Bells fans please note that the track below isn’t the most important facet of the following post. Sure, Diplo gives “Tell’ Em” a fantastic remake that heightens the vicious hand claps and drum kits–not to mention dropping more bass than a fly fisherman with Parkinson’s. But even a remix with one of the industry’s premier DJs takes shotgun when a particular Mrs. Shawn Carter wants to collaborate with the Brooklyn duo’s Derek Miller.
According to Prefix, Diplo played her and her team Sleigh Bells’ debut album, Treats, during recent meetings. The end result saw Beyonce climbing aboard the Sleigh Bells bandwagon and, consequently, enlisting Miller for production duty. Miller now joins Diplo and partner-in-crime, Switch, as they begin working on several tracks that could potentially appear on the singer’s upcoming album.
Indie rock purists and Sleigh Bell diehards might be appalled by the partnership, but when kudos are due, they should most definitely be dished out. This is a step in the right direction for Sleigh Bells’ gaining mainstream notoriety and, in an industry where artists continually need to invent new ways to make money, hitting the boards for one of pop music’s best-known artists is hardly selling out–it’s damn smart. And who knows: hearing the former Ms. Knowles over a few raucous Sleigh Bells beats might be exactly what’s needed to properly follow up I Am…Sasha Fierce.[audio:http://www.archive.org/download/SleighBells-TellEmdiploRemix/TellEmdiploRemix.mp3%5D
