sneaker releases january 2014

Words By Retro Boogie

Missed out on the Jordan 1s this morning, closing out 2013 on a low point? Don’t trip because it’s on to the next, must-have sneaker model and January’s got its fair share of heat already lined up. Here are our picks for the best of the new year that should start showing up at retail after the effects of the champagne hangover wear off.

Nike Air Tech Challenge Huarache 1

Nike Air Tech Challenge Black/Atomic Orange

You already know. Agassi’s back with his first signature shoe with Nike. Cop them and reminisce on the days of yore. Just don’t throw on a purple/orange sensei bandanna to wear with the Challenges. Leave that to Andre.

nike air huarache cool grey

Nike Air Huarache ‘Cool Grey’

The two-decade-old technology utilizing an inner bootie for lockdown support still makes for comfy ass shoes. Sure, they might turn your foot into a sauna but who can say no to a cool grey suede Huarache? For now these are a European release but if Nike’s smart, they’ll release stateside not long after.

Jordan X ‘Infrared’

One of the few non-original colorways that caught the eye of new fans and old schoolers alike. Definitely a rehashed color scheme done right. Grey suede and black accents with just a touch of Infrared is a recipe for instant success. Jordan Xs have flown under the radar but don’t expect the same when these Infrareds come out.

kobe prelude pack

The Rest Of The Kobe Prelude Pack

The Kobe 5, 6, 7, and 8 are making triumphant returns in the Prelude pack, leading up to the Achilles x Air Mag-inspired Kobe 9. With the exception of the 7s, the remainder of the prelude pack ranked high in terms of comfort and looks. Enjoy it, because it looks like the 9s look more suited for a snowboard than the streets.

Release Dates: Nike Kobe Prelude V (1.4.14), Nike Kobe Prelude VI (1.11.14), Nike Kobe Prelude VII (1.18.14), Nike Kobe Prelude VIII (1.25.14)

ronnie fieg puma disc blaze

Ronnie Fieg x Puma Disc Blaze Lite ‘Coat of Arms’

All we know so far is that the sneaker god Fieg is about to bless the world with new variations of the cult classic Puma Disc Blaze Lite. On a shoe with such a recognizable shape, Fieg goes subtle with it and sets either coral or mint-colored suede on a jet black leather upper. Don’t forget about the speckled midsole either, most likely derived from Nike’s use of speckling on the Jordan 4 most notably.
