Snoop Dogg Passes The Torch To Kendrick Lamar

Watching Kendrick Lamar and Game tear through The R.E.D. Album’s “My City” is only half of the highlight here. If you skip to the 4:00 mark, Snoop Dogg approaches the stage and proceeds to pass the proverbial torch to Kendrick in front of the hometown L.A. crowd.

The last time I remember an OG publicly handing over the crown to a young bull was when Scarface told T.I. he could hold the “King Of The South” title on Down With The King. Putting aside missteps in his personal life, the proclamation was huge for T.I.’s professional career. In 2006, Scarface’s nod helped bring Clifford to the front of a pack full of Atlanta emcees and Southern artists as a whole. K. Dot could potentially get the same boost here since Snoop’s more entertainer than rapper, Dre’s more Wizard of Oz than actual producer and Game’s not stable enough to lead the West back to national prominence.

Safe to say Kendrick understands the significance of the moment. Aside from DMX, I haven’t seen an artist get choked up on stage in ages. It’s kind of dope.
