A while back, Coca-Cola had the silly idea of putting people’s names on Coke cans. By silly, I meant brilliant, as it actually increased Coca-Cola sales. Being that Sprite has a long-standing relationship with incorporating hip-hop in its advertising, they decided to go to that well again and print rap lyrics on their cans and bottles.

This summer, Sprite is launching its inaugural “Obey Your Verse” Lyrical Collection, featuring 16 limited-edition package designs emblazoned with positive, inspirational lyrics from hip-hop artists Drake, Nas, Notorious B.I.G. and Rakim. The summer-long campaign is a salute to some of hip-hop’s most admired lyricists of all time who are celebrated for honest self-expression and being true to themselves.

“Legacy means everything to me,” said Nas, a longtime Sprite partner. “When I wrote these lyrics, I never imagined my fans would someday have the opportunity to enjoy a can of Sprite and experience my art in a totally original way.”

Here are the lyrics you’ll be seeing this summer:

There’s probably some commentary to be had about the commercialization of hip-hop, Drake subtly aligning himself with greatness, or Nas’ excitement over seeing his lyrics on a Sprite bottle. However, all this talk about Sprite ads has made me nostalgic about the Voltron ad, so I’ll just watch that instead.
