“…Fever, was it me or either summer madness.”
Eric B. & Rakim – Move The Crowd 12″
It was a wrap when he stepped on the scene.
i don’t understand how people can say little wayne is the best rapper alive in light of something like this…i really don’t.
cause people these days are fucking WETODDID, that’s how…
I got a new word. LOL
Rakim was a game changer
We can all agree he’s pretty much the benchmark for MC’ing, right?
^ Rakim remains #1 on my all-time list….so clearly I’m biased TDot.
in his prime, I’d put him up against ANYBODY. bring whomever, however, and whereever…and the God woulda destroyed their ass.
Rakim created emcee’s new generation (about 1990) …now who is the new rakim… an emcee to recreate a new vibe, a new evolution of the emcee.
? i don’t know but stay tuned nevertheless to “Untitled” 15th july ! N!§§€R !
Dr.Dre created beat’s new generation (about 1990)
and maybe a third (r)evolution about Detox.
Got my vote.
I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that this cat dropped 4 classic albums in a row.
Paid In Full (87)
Follow The Leader (88)
Don’t Sweat The Technique (1992)
Let The Rhythm Hit ‘Em. (1990)
Four classic albums–one every 2 years or so. Each album, if you go back and listen to ’em brought a freshness of lyrical styles, flows and musical concepts.
It’s debatable how much work Eri B put it–the two argue a lot over who did which beats, etc. but somebody took it from James Brown loops to boom bap breaks to soulful jazz loops.
As a duo, they’re 4 for 4. You’ll never see 4 classic albums in a row from any group, duo or soloist like this.
@ Black Canseco…
I’d say the only classic classic was Paid In Full. The other ones definitely have the share of classic songs but I don’t think they measure up to the first one.
were they as good as PIF? maybe not, depending on your tastes, but on their own merits, particularly in context of everything else dropping at the time, they stood out, had their own sound and the songs still stand.
Oh no doubt. But me personally, when I hear the term “classic” I’m thinking in absolutes. Like the head of the packs. There’s plenty of albums that are classics in their own rights (such as those Eric B. & Rakim albums), but I’m usually dealing with the elite.
