This year’s MTV VMAs have already been fairly eventful and that’s even before the show itself actually happens. The latest event involves Suge Knight reportedly being struck by bullets at a VMA pre-party hosted by Chris Brown.
According to TMZ, the former Death Row figurehead was attending the event held at 1OAK nightclub in West Hollywood when shots were fired. While the story is still sketchy, TMZ notes that “Tyson Beckford, Robert Ri’chard and Apple de Ap…heard 4 shots ring out inside the club.”
One Twitter user, who seems to have been inside, mentioned that the shots were directed at Brown. Three party-goers were reportedly injured, including Knight.
Knight, age 49, was hit, but ultimately walked out of the club on his own. He was helped by a responding officer who then seated him inside a police car. Ambulances soon arrived and Knight was taken to the hospital to undergo surgery.
Per the report, he was hit six times, mostly in “the stomach and arm.” The most recent report noted that he is out of surgery and recovering in the ICU.
We’ll update as more details become available.
Update: TMZ released footage that appears to capture Suge moments after shooting. With chaos on the scene, he’s seen kneeling beside a police car with an officer helping to support.
Also, his family released a statement asking for prayers instead of negativity being spread by media outlets and social media.
“The family of Suge Knight ask that you keep Suge in your prayers and to stray away from the negativity portrayed by the media. Suge is currently resting and has lost a lot of blood, he’s human. He’s done a lot of things for the community and the culture as a whole so we ask that you respect that.”
