Since walking out of prison, “Hear Ye, Hear Ye” may be the best record Tip has had attached to his name. Clifford and Pharrell have been making music together dating all the way back to I’m Serious over a decade ago, and “Hear Ye…” provides visual proof the duo’s musical comfort zone isn’t fading anytime soon. More green screen effects than anything else, the video isn’t anything write home about. However, the push for T.I.’s new solo album, aptly entitled Trouble Man, appears to be in the beginning stages of the promotion. Depending on whether records have some sort of impact on the public’s musical tastebuds, this Pharrell collaboration could be more important than we’re all giving it credit for.
That being said, the moment T.I. begins rapping about the night Big Phil was murdered in his verse here may be the best and most open he’s been since “Dead & Gone” back in 2008.
