“Push Thru,” Talib Kweli’s collaboration with Curren$y and Kendrick Lamar, leaked to the net very briefly late last year, but now gets a proper roll-out befitting such a talented lineup. With uplifting, strings-heavy production by S1 (of “Power” fame), the song has the three emcees offering their perspectives on overcoming roadblocks–Spitta paints a picture of his self-starting, independent grind, the politically in tune Kweli references the efforts of the Arab Spring, and K. Dot tussles with the complexities of dreaming big in an environment that rarely fosters ambitious aspirations. If not mind-blowing, it’s a good illustration of how collaborators can find common ground without sacrificing their individual styles.

“Push Thru” will likely be found on Talib Kweli’s forthcoming album, Prisoner of Consciousness.
