Jack Black used his blend of comedy and metal to drive his Tenacious D vehicle to stardom. While hardly a secret, Black’s music (which inspired an HBO mini-series and feature-length film) generally gets lost in the shuffle of some of his more recent projects, which seem to be more kid-friendly than anything else. Those counting down the days until a D reunion are in luck: their new six-minute music video, “To Be The Best,” serves as a coming out party for the group’s new CD, Rize of the Fenix. The CD will come out on May 15th, according to the band’s website.
While not as vulgar as some of their earlier material (those in need of a good laugh should play through the band’s entire 2001 debut, Tenacious D), “To Be…” features enough zany, random antics to entertain, highlighted by Black’s wingman, Kyle Gass. Pay attention when the entire project releases. If it’s even half as funny as the group’s original content, it will be worth your time.
