The iPod Shuffle: 11/5’s “Garcia Vegas”

If you haven’t untubed a Garcia Vega and stuffed that bad boy to the brim with Grimace, you can’t consider yourself completely versed on loud. If you haven’t heard of 11/5, the under-appreciated San Fran rap group from the 90s, we wouldn’t be surprised. Short-lived, but funkier than a pair of week-worn gym socks, Taydatay and the crew were huge on sampling old school R&B dance joints, but never big anywhere other than The Bay. However, on their Fiendin’ 4 Tha Funk debut from 1995, these three fast-flowing dope smokers reloaded a Morris Day & The Time sample and fired up a box of “Garcia Vegas,” in hopes of toking with the world. Potent and oh-so-jammable, this ode to the extra-long cigars even propelled the album to a brief stint on the Billboard 100.

Maybe if they had been born during our current cannibis-crazed culture, this joint wouldn’t have been their pinnacle and the group could’ve survived beyond 2001. Let’s all smoke one to that.
