Since stumbling across David Sides’ awesome Kanye medley some years ago, I’ve developed a penchant for intermittently following YouTube down the road of rap song piano covers. And what Hip-Hop album from the last 12 months is more deserving of a musical homage than Kendrick Lamar’s good kid, M.A.A.D City?* It’s certainly generated more than enough think pieces as it is.
K. Dot’s debut is the inspiration for Canadian musician The Theorist’s latest video – which features piano interpretations for a bunch of GKMC highlights – “mAAd city,” “Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe,” “Real,” “Money Trees” and “Swimming Pools.” If you’re wondering about the kid’s chops, he’s already been vetted by Kendrick himself.
