Dreezy – Call It What You Want EP
Dreezy first dropped on to my radar because she was from Chicago, and was perpetrating that drill sound that isn’t as prevalent as it once was. Call It What You Want might taunt you to, well, do that, but drill it is not. Maybe she’s been under the influence of Tink, and has adapted an older, more R&B feel for the beats, or is just getting older and changing. Either way, it’s safe to say that we win, as listeners.
At a mere 5 tracks, Dreezy is definitely saying that she’s more mature. “How I’m Coming,” with Teyana Taylor’s ultra smooth and double entendre’d hook, is a hot one. “Ain’t Rocking With You” with K Camp is another highlight. Over a Southside beat, sonically, it feels closer to what I expected going into this EP, and her and K mesh nicely with their double threat singing and rapping.
