Timberwolves Rookie Ricky Rubio Debuts Against The Thunder

It’s been a while since a floppy-haired, skinny kid named Ricky Rubio shocked the world by hanging with the best point guards America had to offer in the 2008 Olympic Gold-Medal Game. Expectations are, to say the least, high for his rookie season. No worries, though. Rubio lived up to the hype with ease in his debut against the Thunder last night. The world-class court vision and incredible passing ability that fans have dreamed about for years was on display. Plus, Rubio showed great poise for a rookie – zero turnovers in 26 minutes is impressive for any point guard, but especially for a guy who had never stepped onto an NBA court before.

And, of course, he put together some highlights. The pass he snuck past Nick Collison made me leap out of my chair. I don’t know what the future holds for Ricky – he still can’t shoot, really, and the league lists him at a remarkably slim 6’4,” 180 pounds – but I can’t wait to see.
