Ladies and gentlemen, Timothy Bradley is the new WBO welterweight champion, which comes as a surprise to many, including Timothy Bradley. In one of the more controversial fights to date, Bradley defeated five-time champ Manny Pacquiao in a split decision, providing the only blemish on Pacquiao’s record and forcing him to hand over the title to Bradley.

Manny seemed to have the fight in hand and led on most watchers’ cards. Even in sheer numbers, all statistical data seemed to lean towards Pac Man winning. CompuBox stats for connected punches show Bradley 159/839 while Pacquiao went 253/751 and Manny lead in jabs and power punches, 63-51 and 190-108 respectively. Ultimately, Manny didn’t lead on the night’s most important scorecards: those of the judges, two of whom (C.J. Ross and Duane Ford) gave Bradley a 115-113 edge, while the third judge Jerry Roth scored the bout 115-113 for Pacquiao. Adding insult to injury, Ross and Ford each awarded Bradley five of the final six rounds.

Bradley himself couldn’t believe the final outcome, suggesting that “I got to go home and view the tape and see if I really won.” We expect that he’ll watch the fight and walk away thinking the same as everyone else: it looks like Manny got robbed.
