By now, we’ve all seen the All-Star kicks ad nauseum over the weekend. Cool. The best part of the festivities in NOLA though? The man, the myth, the legend Tinker Hatfield may have shared a big reveal regarding Nike Air Mag’s famous lacing mechanism possibly becoming a reality, per Sole Collector.
During an appearance at the Jordan Brand’s Flight Lab space in New Orleans earlier today, designer Tinker Hatfield was asked about the possibility of seeing power lacing next year, and his answer may surprise you.
“Are we gonna see power laces in 2015? To that, I say YES!” said Hatfield.
Our first reaction will probably mirror that of many others.
This is just speculation, but it’s doubtful that power-lacing will make an appearance on another iteration of the Nike MAG. However, fans of the time-traveling adventures of Doc Brown and Marty McFly in the Back to the Future series might remember that Marty travels to 2015 initially to save his children from themselves in BTFII. So, is Nike planning to match the prophecy first established by the film?
The 2011 release of the MAG – sans the self-lacing mechanism – ended up flipping the game on its ear. A limited number were released via auction only, selling for thousands and raising hundreds of thousands for the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. Safe to say sneakerheads and movie buffs alike would spring at the chance to pick up a pair again.
For now, it’s a waiting game to see if Tinker comes through with another classic, or if he’s bullshitting us a la LeBron in a dunk contest.
