“Def Jam” isn’t exactly a tribute. Not in the way that one would assume, at least. But damnit if Trinidad Jame$ isn’t on to something here; not re-inventing any lyrical wheel or anything, but his flow is so crude that it actually kind of works. Sort of like how a lot of good punk rock is, technically speaking, bad, but in a meta, intentional kind of way.
Or maybe I’m just over-thinking everything.
Regardless, the track serves to inspire what should be a big year for arguably the biggest brand in hip-hop, which is turning 30. Keep your ears open for more tributes to the House That Russell And Rick Built.
