The long awaited film for ‘Pac’s life is closer to coming into existence. On Thursday, Morgan Creek Productions and Emmett/Furla Films issued a press release stating they were in final stages of negotiations with a partner on the production of the flick centering on the late rapper.
Per Billboard, shooting will begin next year in Atlanta and the film will be executive produced by Afeni Shakur. The script, written by Eddie Gonzalez and Jeremy Haft in 2011, has been in constant legal limbo as Afeni and Morgan Creek battled for control before finally reaching an agreement. With all of those obstacles out of the way, only one noticeable hurdle remains – deciding who will portray ‘Pac in the film, which may be the toughest decision by far.
Once upon a time, Mekhi Phifer and Bokeem Woodbine were the go-to guys when movies needed a bald-headed black guy. Toss Meikhi Treach was another guy called on when Hollywood needed a muscular dude who could convincingly wear a snarl. But, all of those guys are older now.
On the younger side of the equation, I’d submit Michael B. Jordan’s name into the hat, but he has to be tired of dying on the screen after having already gettin’ offed as Wallace and Oscar Grant. Tristan Wilds could be considered and I’m sure he’d jump at the opportunity and let the whole Mack Wilds, the rapper thing go for a bit.
So, dear reader, who should play Tupac in his biopic?
