BET Legend: Arnez J

One of the better programs during Black Entertainment Television’s glory days was the Def Comedy Jam meets cable TV crossbreed Comic View. The show itself acted as part of the introduction in the mid-90s to my love for (quality) stand up comedy and Arnez J proved to be one of the more popular comedians who would put on the show on center stage. He was rowdy and over-the-top, but now looking back on it, that was probably the reason I seemed to appreciate his style of entertainment. In a sense, it was somewhat similar to Martin Lawrence’s who drew inspiration from Flip Wilson.

This particular clip is notable for several reasons. Looking at footage like this is a classic nostalgia trip. It’s all vintage 1990s, from the clothes, to the hairstyles to the color combinations of the entire set-up. I’m 25, which means I’m still young, but I know each day passing is one further and further away from the days when bills and gas prices were the least of my priorities. Above all the sentimental and introspective jazz I’m spinning right now, the clip was funny as hell.

Proceed and click play and reminisce on a time when BET lived up to its name on a consistent basis. It’s alright to reminisce from time to time. Then you can go back to hating the channel for whatever reason(s).
